Description

Australian National University  can support you financially if you are admitted to one of its study programmes as an international student.

Australian National University awards scholarships, bursaries, tuition fee reductions and discounts that help you cover existing tuition and living costs. 

Benefits

  • Stipend
    • $50,291 per annum (2024 rate), indexed each year on 1 January, and paid fortnightly
    • Duration (3.5 years PhD)
    • Extension (1 x 6 months PhD)
  • Paid leave entitlements:
    • Paid Recreation Leave: 20 working days (part of stipend)
    • Paid Medical Leave: 10 working days (part of stipend)
  • Additional Paid Leave: 60 working days
  • Paid Parental Leave: 60 working days
  • Paid Partner Parental Leave: 5 working days
  •  Thesis reimbursement (capped at$840)
  • Travel and removal reimbursement (capped at $3,030)
  • School-funded support for PhD candidates to the amount of $7500 over the course of a 3.5-year PhD (i.e. conference funding & field research support)

Eligibility

The Award is available each year to a prospective Australian Indigenous ANU student who:

  • is enrolling full-time in a program of study for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in archaeology/palaeoecology/genetics or closely related fields of study, based in the School of Culture, History and Language, College of Asia and the Pacific, and
  • has a Bachelor’s degree with at least upper second-class honours, or a research Masters degree from a recognised university, and
  • is an Australian Citizen identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

    Selection process follows that outlined in the School of Culture, History and Language (CHL) expression of interest application.

    Selection of candidate will be governed by a selection committee made up of the Deputy Director HDR in CHL (Chair) plus at least two academic staff within the Centre of Excellence ANU node.
