Description

This scholarship is funded by a bequest from Lady Persia Elspbeth Galleghan OBE, to support an outstanding student undertaking a master's by research or Doctor of Philosophy in the area of Australian Literature. Lady Galleghan was a generous benefactor to the University, especially in her support for Australian Literature. She also enabled the establishment of the Herbert Blaiklock Memorial Lecture, named after her father, and honouring the poet Henry Kendall.

Benefits

The Scholarship will provide a stipend allowance of $45,000 per annum for the following duration:

up to 3.5 years for a PhD recipient 

up to 1.75 years for a master's by research recipient.

No extension is possible.

Eligibility

You must:

  • be enrolled, intending to apply, applied for admission, have a conditional or unconditional offer of admission to study full-time in a master's by research or PhD in English and Writing, School of Art, Communication and English at the University of Sydney.
  • conduct research in the field of Australian Literature 
  • apply for the University of Sydney Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend Scholarship.

This scholarship follows the Research Training Program (RTP) application process. 

Scholarship Commencing research period: For Research Period 1 and 2 apply before 12 September.

For Research Period 3 and 4, apply before 18 December.
