Overview
The Doctoral School of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, established on January 1, 2001, represents the highest level of chemical engineering education at the University of Pannonia , with over 100 PhD degrees awarded to date.
The programme combines structured study, independent research, and reporting activities in line with the University’s Doctoral Regulations. Credits are earned through coursework, research, and teaching, with one contact hour per week equivalent to two study points. PhD students engage in lecturing and industrially relevant project work, enhancing both skills and professional networks.
The primary aim of the School is to train scientists capable of independent and creative research in chemical engineering and materials science. Students may pursue research under internationally recognized faculty in areas including material analysis and surface chemistry, process engineering, intelligent materials, ceramic industry systems, modern chemical unit operations, environmental engineering technologies, hydrocarbon processing, molecular and nanotechnologies, and biotechnology. Graduates are well prepared for academic, research, and industry careers.

Doctoral studies at the University of Pannonia combine academic, research, and educational activities.
- Phase 1 (24 months) focuses on coursework and research, concluding with a complex exam (minimum 90 credits).
- Phase 2 (24 months) emphasizes intensive research and dissertation preparation, resulting in a pre-degree certificate (minimum 240 credits).
- Phase 3 includes all remaining steps leading to the award of the PhD degree, ensuring students are fully prepared for independent scientific work and academic or research careers.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or higher.
MSc degrees accepted without additional conditions include Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Environmental Engineering.
Candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency at B2 level or higher and submit a research proposal or research plan outlining their intended doctoral study.
