Overview

The Department is a highly active, research-intensive community of academics, researchers and doctoral students, using our excellent research facilities and producing world-leading research outputs. We have a strong and growing research programme with world-class research activities and facilities, focusing on industry and society’s needs. For instance, we're looking at the commercial production of stem cells, disinfection of hospital wards, novel drug delivery methods, advanced fuel cells, green and sustainable hydrogen production, nanomaterials and electrocatalysis for electrochemical clean energy technologies, advanced water treatment, and continuous manufacturing of pharmaceutical products.

Undertaking the Chemical Engineering programme at Loughborough University is challenging yet rewarding. Whilst strengthening your research ability, it will also allow you to develop a much wider range of transferable skills that can be applied to a range of industries.

Graduates from our department leave with a breadth of technical skills and expertise, far beyond their particular degree specialism. Our graduates progress onto a wide variety of careers within engineering, which put the skills and knowledge acquired during this programme into practice. A higher degree, such as a PhD, can accelerate your career and facilitate progression into positions with higher responsibility. Upon completion of your PhD, you may also wish to stay within academic research, either securing a post-doctoral research position or lecturing role, within UK and international institutes.
