Key Facts

The program in Political Science - International Relations at Central European University (CEU) provides students with a variety of methodological tools and a deep grounding in disciplinary concepts and theories in order to enable them to both explain and understand the material and textual, social and technical factors that account for continuity and change in world politics.
Although therefore necessarily global in its outlook, the track has particular geographical expertise in Europe (eastern and western), Central Asia, MENA, and it is building up its expertise in South East Asia. Epistemologically and methodologically, the track draws upon both positivist and non-positivist approaches, with a concomitant commitment to pursuing traditional and critical scholarship.
IR faculty is involved in a variety of international research collaborations.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and a master's degree (or equivalent) in a related field from a recognized university or institution of higher education, or provide documentation indicating that they will earn such a degree before enrollment in a CEU doctoral course of study.
Those students holding a five-year master’s degree are not required to have a bachelor’s.
