The Designer in Bioprocess Engineering programme from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) develops selected MSc graduates from Biochemical engineering, or related academic backgrounds, into designers in Bioprocess Engineering, with the title ‘Engineering Doctorate’, or EngD.

What is the PDEng?

The EngD is a specialised design traineeship aimed at preparing qualified candidates with a MSc degree for the numerous challenges inherent in an industry-focused profession. The two year programme involves advanced courses that refine the technical knowledge of the trainee, while improving their understanding of economic and managerial aspects of design. Supplementing this is twelve months of hands-on industrial experience, in which this knowledge can be applied. Upon graduation, the trainee will have obtained an innovative attitude, a critical approach, and the capability to solve a wide array of practical design challenges.

Industry and Career Opportunities

Our interaction with industry is essential. The programme prepares trainees for an industrial career, and usually half of the traineeship is spent working in industry or on an industry-related project. Our organisation has an industrial advisory board, and the design projects and our graduates are highly respected by industries in the Netherlands and abroad.

General requirements

Keen on European work experience, you speak excellent English, and you have an open, creative mind and a critical attitude.The EngD BPE programme welcomes applications from well-qualified students who have successfully completed 5 years of university training (MSc, ir., Engineering Degree).

You must hold an MSc degree in (Bio-)Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Environmental or Food technology, or comparable, with excellent results.

From our EngD-trainees, we expect an interdisciplinary attitude, an eye for application of technology in industry and team skills.

A very strong engineering background for the Designer in Bioprocess EngD programme is requested: mathematics, mass transfer, heat transfer and experience with at least one of the following: Matlab, ASPEN, Python, Super Pro Designer.
