Overview
The mission of Mechanical Engineering department at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is to carry out long term, generic, world-class research within the mechanical engineering domain on carefully selected topics that fall within the research profile areas of the university, and that match the technological interests of high-tech, internationally oriented industry in the Netherlands and especially in Brainport Eindhoven.
Furthermore we want to realize an education and research program with a balanced combination of fundamental and application aspects, thereby aiming at providing industry with scientifically educated and application-driven engineers who are optimally equipped to address future challenges.
Scientific career
After a PhD, many scientists opt for a postdoctoral period, often in another country or at another university, mostly for several years. It is an opportunity to broaden and deepen your research skills, contribute to the research field, and build up a track record. TU/e also offers (international) postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to enhance their research experience.
After your postdoctoral experience, you can apply for a Development Track as an Assistant Professor. TU/e encourages talented scientists to develop into assistant and associate professors. Successful associate professors can eventually take the step to a professors' position.

General requirements
- The most important admission criteria are your scientific qualities: you must be familiar with the theory and methodology of your field of study. In addition, an education requirement applies.
- You must have a Dutch master's degree (old-style doctoral degree) or a foreign equivalent.
- Not every foreign preparatory and/or master's program automatically gives you access to a Dutch PhD track. This will be assessed per candidate.
- Since English is the working language in science, we expect a C1 level from our PhD candidates. Please read the job description(s) carefully for any additional requirements.
