Overview
The History programme at the University of the National Education Commission, Krakow may comprise additional ways of acquiring and developing qualifications, at DS student’s own initiative.
This programme prepares DS student for research, development, artistic and teaching work within the scope of:
- academic competences;
- specialist competences;
- social competences.
The School supports:
- interdisciplinary activities and projects;
- PhD students’ mobility and making contacts in Poland and abroad through enabling PhD students’ participation in exchange programmes and conferences, also international;
- carrying out research and artistic activities, also outside the particular University or research unit;
- academic or artistic cooperation within the frames of research teams, alo international;
- participation in summer schools and other programmes or courses (also on-line) that develop academic, artistic, didactic, and social skills.

General requirements
PhD projects may focus on: ancient to 18th-century societies and states; 19th–21st century history; history didactics; archival studies; historical heritage and tourism. The competitive admission includes:
(a) a research proposal (0–15 pts, 20,000–40,000 characters incl. bibliography), evaluated for clarity, relevance, methodology, originality, and feasibility;
(b) an interview (0–20 pts) assessing knowledge of the chosen period, research tools, literature, and discussion skills;
(c) scholarly activity (0–7 pts) including publications, conferences, internships (min. 7 days), research projects, and awards. Documentation required. Polish or English accepted.
Work experience
An eligible candidate for the Doctoral School in History must hold a Master’s degree or an equivalent degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences.
