Overview
Within this Health Economics PhD course from University of York students will be encouraged to actively participate in seminars and workshops organised by the Department of Economics, and will have the opportunity to play an active role in the Department research activities.

- In your first year you will undertake a comprehensive graduate training programme to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge for research in economics.
- We also offer a variation on the iPhD for students whose research is primarily focused upon Health Economics. This Health Economics course from University of York runs in exactly the same format as the standard iPhD, except that during the taught first year the Health Economics module is a compulsory assessed component, and Macroeconomics for Research is an optional module (the reverse is the case with the standard iPhD). The application process for this route is exactly the same as for the standard iPhD.

General requirements
- PhD applicants are usually required to hold a Bachelor degree in Economics with a 2:1 or 1st class honours (or overseas equivalent) and an MSc in Economics or in a closely related discipline with a high average mark. MSc programmes providing little or no background in Economics and Econometrics or without formal examinations at post-graduate level in Economics and Econometrics do not meet the entry requirement.
- Students wishing to apply for an MPhil or PhD research degree must write a research proposal.
