Overview

The Pharmacognosy PhD programme from Masaryk University aim is to train experts in the field of natural biologically active substances, with deep theoretical knowledge and methodological skills and with the prerequisites for independent creative activity at the interdisciplinary and international level.

Career opportunities:

Graduates can work in basic and applied research of natural medicines, in the management of their industrial production, in biotechnological laboratories and in analytical laboratories dealing with their evaluation, pharmacokinetics and interaction with living matter. The study is designed significantly interdisciplinary.

Programme Structure

Curriculum:

The graduate has knowledge of the sources of natural medicines, their processing, quality assessment and their use.

He also has special knowledge of plant metabolism, biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, methods of their extraction and isolation, and determination of chemical structure.

She/He masters selected methods for determining biological activity, can prepare derivatives of native substances. Some graduates are experts in plant tissue cultures for studies enabling the application of molecular biological methods.
