Overview
Biological & Agricultural Engineering is the integration of applied biology into the fundamental engineering principles for the purpose of designing processes and systems that influence, control, or utilize biological materials, including animals, plants, humans, and other living organisms, for the benefit of society.
The Biological Engineering program at Louisiana State University focus on helping students build themselves as professionals with both a strong science and engineering background, dedicated to the journey of life-long learning.
Our BE students graduate with strong fundamental engineering skills, technical knowledge, and professional and personal skills to effectively practice engineering in conjunction with biological systems.
Our alumni often obtain positions in a wide range of career fields, like oil and gas, the medical industry, and federal government. Some jobs our students are eligible for are biomedical engineer, soil scientist, plant geneticist, and agricultural consultant, just to name a few.
Program Objectives
The program educational objectives include producing graduates who- have strong fundamental engineering skills, technical knowledge, and professional and personal skills to effectively practice engineering in biological systems (plants, animals, humans, microbes and their environments) with demonstrated proficiency;
- address current and future challenges in biological engineering through life-long learning, professional and ethical contributions to society, and sustained accomplishment;
- and obtain graduate and/or professional degrees at notable universities in biological and agricultural engineering, biomedical engineering, medicine, law, business, or other related disciplines.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- The student should first prepare a working draft of the program of study. As a courtesy to the student’s committee members, course titles and numbers should be listed.
- Then, the student, together with his or her major professor, should select the committee members who will review the proposed program of study.
- The student should provide copies of the drafted program of study to the committee members, who may approve, amend, or not approve the program of studies.
