Overview
The MD/JD Law and Medicine program at Boston University is conducted under the joint auspices of the School of Medicine and the School of Law.
Outcomes
Completion of the law degree will prepare graduates of the dual degree program for careers in health law practice, as well as healthcare systems and healthcare policy, in both government and private sectors.
Graduates of the program will also gain the qualifications to practice law and/or medicine, depending on their career direction.
Programme Structure
Structure:
- Students complete the first three years of the medical school curriculum and then spend their fourth and fifth year fully integrated into the JD program at the School of Law.
- During these two years, they complete most of their JD education. In the sixth year, students complete their remaining medical courses and JD credits.

General requirements
To apply for admission to the JD program, you must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, or be enrolled in a course of study that will result in the award of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university before you commence study at BU Law
- Application Fee
- LSAC Credential Assembly Service (CAS): Register with the Law School Admission Council’s (LSAC) Credential Assembly Service (CAS). Applications to the JD program must be submitted through LSAC.
- Transcripts: Submit your transcripts through LSAC’s Credential Assembly Service.
- Standardized Tests: Test scores are required from either the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
