About the school
Our research strengths in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology cover a wide variety of fields and emphasizes interdisciplinary efforts both within and external to our department.
Georgia Tech’s culture of science-based problem solving is exemplified by SoCB-led efforts directed at discovering the chemical origins of life, developing new functional materials and synthetic methods, probing structure and reactivity at molecular interfaces, uncovering new biochemical signatures of disease, creating new useful theoretical methods and software, developing bio-renewable fuels, and many other projects.

General requirements
- Admission decisions are based on the review of the applicant's research experience, undergraduate transcript, GRE scores, personal statement, and letters of recommendation.
- In addition to students who have completed a bachelor's degree in chemistry or biochemistry, the School also accepts students with training in biology, chemical engineering, physics, and other disciplines, who may not have completed study in all of the core areas, but who have completed a rigorous program in an allied discipline and have sufficiently strong training in chemistry.
- Prior research experience and relevant work experience are considered favorably in the admissions process.
