Focus of The Biomedical Engineering at The Medical University of Vienna is laid on the newest research aspects, safe clinical application and the pathway from invention to use. Special focus is laid on questions of cardiovascular diagnostics and therapeutic devices, strategies and implants for neuro-stimulation, rehabilitation, and prostheses, and hybrid applications in additive manufacturing and tissue engineering.

Further, the members of the program committee are in close contact with various technical and physical institutes to apply additional special methods if necessary.

Focus of the research activities are placed on the stimulation of nerves and muscles, in applications for the heart and the circulatory systems, internal artificial organs and hybrid organs, as well as questions of biocompatibility, biomechanics and rehabilitation. These projects address both basic and applied research, in close cooperation with national and international companies, educational institutions and health agencies.

MedUni Vienna offers fully-funded doctoral studies in interdisciplinary programs, including Medical Physics, Artificial Intelligence, Immunology, Neurosciences, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Malignant Diseases, (RNA, vascular, infectious) Biology, Molecular Signalling or Mechanisms of Cell Biology, Cellular Homeostasis, Public Health and Medical Informatics. Research activities range from basic to clinical research. The University offers state-of-the-art research facilities and is directly linked to one of the largest hospitals in Europe.
