Overview
The MD-PhD Medicine Program at University of Zurich enables interested and particularly qualified medical students and graduates to add to their degree in medicine, veterinary medicine, or dentistry and to gain a basic natural science education which allows them to conduct regular doctoral studies at the University of Zurich’s Faculty of Science without previously attaining an MSc degree in natural science.

Programme Structure
Curriculum:
- Track I: The propaedeutic studies are entered in parallel to the medical Master studies at UZH. The doctoral dissertation is conducted after earning the medical Master degree.
- Track II: Both propaedeutic studies and doctoral dissertation are conducted after attaining a medical Master degree (human medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry).

General requirements
- Track I: Students enrolled at UZH in a medical Master’s program with at least good academic performance in their Bachelor’s studies are eligible.
- The MD-PhD program begins during the Master’s phase of medical studies. In this initial phase, foundational natural science modules can be completed.
- After completing the medical degree, the research phase of the MD-PhD program begins, culminating in the dissertation.
- Track II: Applicants holding a university Master’s degree in Medicine, Dentistry, or Veterinary Medicine meet the formal admission requirements for the program. The medical degree should generally not be older than five years.
- The MD-PhD program is open to students of all nationalities. Recognition of foreign degrees is the responsibility of the UZH admissions office.
