- The purpose of this qualification is to develop intellectual and professional skills of the student. A qualifying student would show evidence of independent and original scientific in the field of Human Resource Management work.
- The thesis would constitute a distinctive contribution to knowledge of and insight into the module discipline as well as the field of research.
- Qualifying students would also display competence in the application of related research methodology, and the proper written and/or oral communication of the research process and findings. Students should be able to reflect on the research process and findings critically.

- An appropriate Master’s degree applicable for access to a PhD degree. The student must have completed an honours module of Research Methodology (NQF Level 8) undertaken as part of a degree.
- Students are obliged to attend and pass a module on Research Methodology as offered by the Department. Student number constraints may necessitate a selection process consisting of selection interviews, psychometric testing and a research proposal exercise.
