OSU's petroleum engineers will be hands-on with understanding of formation rock, applied mechanics, materials, fluid behavior and application of their effects on reservoir, drilling and completion economics and environmental sustainability.

Students in the Petroleum Engineering program from Oklahoma State University will develop a team-oriented problem-solving attitude that is required in industry.

Programme Structure

Curriculum:

There are two paths available to satisfy the requirements for the PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering. For students entering the program with a BS in engineering and requires a total of 68 hours (36 hours of course work and 32 hours of research thesis).

For students entering the program with an MS in petroleum engineering from OSU and requires a total of 38 hours (6 hours in the core courses and 26 hours of research thesis).

General requirements

Admission to either the Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree program requires graduation from a chemical engineering curriculum approved by the ABET or a recognized equivalent from any international program.

Students with undergraduate degrees in other engineering disciplines or closely-related fields, such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, or biological sciences, are evaluated on an individual basis and a specific plan of study is developed for each student.

This plan may include an additional 10 – 15 semester credit hours of undergraduate courses in Chemical Engineering. Admission is competitive based on undergraduate GPA, GRE and TOEFL (for international students), statement of background and goals, research experience and interests, and recommendations.
