Subjects include:
- Late Roman and Byzantine history, culture, and archaeology (early, middle, and late periods)
- Medieval and modern Islamic history
- Turkish and Central Asian history from early medieval to modern times
- Balkan history, with a particular emphasis on Greece, up to the present day
- International relations, particularly involving the Great Powers and Balkan/Near Eastern states from the mid-nineteenth century
- Modern Greek literature and culture
- Levantine and Syria-Palestine
