The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics performs world-class research in a number of areas including protein structure, folding, complex formation & trafficking, molecular studies on mitochondria, membrane protein topology and assembly, transmembrane transport, protein-lipid-interactions, computational biophysics, bioinformatics, machine learning, neurodegeneration, the electrical and network properties of neurons as well as the brain’s control of behavior.

A number of organisms are studied, from bacteria and yeast, to mice and plants. The Department provides cutting edge equipment, and the research groups utilize a wide range of state-of-the-art methods. Stockholm University is a leading research university that conducts basic independent research and applied research in the human and natural sciences. Our research produces internationally recognised scientific breakthroughs.
