About the programme
The Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences PhD programme at Stockholm University focuses on the following research areas:
- Ecological research studies the distribution and abundance of species in time and space, and the interactions among organisms and with their environment.
- The ecological research Stockholm University has a broad scope both in the choice of study organisms, from microorganisms to mammals and trees, as in the type of questions posed. Roughly, ecological research can be subdivided into several organisational levels; populations, communities and ecosystems.
- Environment and sustainability are important research fields at Stockholm University. The research covers, for example, environmental toxins, climate change and landscape processes and how to build a society in a sustainable way.
- The plant science research covers several areas, among them life processes, ecological interactions and the evolutionary history of plants. The research is based on laboratory work as well as field work, performed for example in Sweden, in areas with a Mediterranean climate, and in the tropics.
