Overview

The Department of Media Studies (IMS) offers doctoral programmes in two different areas at the Section for Journalism, Media and Communication Studies (JMK); Media and Communication Studies and Journalism Studies, leading to the Swedish degree of 'filosofie doktor' (Ph.D.).

Research

Research in this Media and Communication Studies programme at Stockholm University has a strong emphasis on both social sciences and the humanities, with many of our scholars doing work related to what might be called the political power of media and communication.

This broad label includes, political and popular communication, media and racism, right-wing populism and nationalism/nativism, environmental communication and critical geopolitics, media and gender, communication and activism, mobilization and organization.
