Overview

Our main specialty in this Musicology programme at Uppsala University is historical musicology, but we also work with popular music studies, ethnomusicology, music aesthetics and artistic research. We also have special expertise within music theory and music analysis, which is evident in education as well as research.

Features

The research seminar in musicology is a forum where scholars, PhD students and other students meet to discuss current or concluded projects within musicology or other related disciplines. A couple of times each semester, international scholars visit our department to present their work.

A person meets the general entry requirements for PhD Programmes if he or she:

has been awarded a second-cycle qualification;
has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle; or
has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
