About the programme

The focus in this Civil Engineering and Built Environment prorgamme at Uppsala University is on design, construction and production of buildings and infrastructure, installation technology, technological systems in the built environment, their energy and resource requirements, as well as coordination between the built environment's engineering systems and other societal systems.

The topic includes everything from individual buildings and building components to entire cities and communities.

Methodologically, the research includes mathematical modeling, computer simulation, laboratory experiments, as well as experiments and evaluation of full-scale systems. Interdisciplinary studies aimed at relevant areas can be included as part of the doctoral education.

Gotland’s sustainable energy system transition: resources, demand and planning
Increased utilisation of the grid with combined solar- and wind power parks
Virtual testbed for strategic city and energy planning through integrated digital models

A person meets the general entry requirements for PhD Programmes if he or she:

has been awarded a second-cycle qualification;
has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle; or
has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
