Overview
Doctoral students' theses usually connect to one of the department's research directions within which professors and associate professors conduct research. Most of the research activities are financed by external funds, which means that the dissertations are often written within the framework of any of these projects.

- Since we always provide secure employment for our Geography PhD-students at Umea University, we only hire new candidates when we have means to fully finance salary, social costs, office space etc for four years.

- The program also includes learning to work independently to after completed education being able to initiate, operate and complete projects.
