Overview
About the prorgamme
The structured training program of the Immunomicrotope RTG at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) conveys the necessary theoretical knowledge, technical capabilities and general research skills to the doctoral candidates in order to allow for an efficient analysis of the “immunomicrotope” and a successful thesis work.
Among other components, it consists of introductory lectures on infectious disease immunology, practical courses and workshops, guest seminars, a doctoral candidates´ jour fixe, an annual retreat, international laboratory exchanges, and participation in the institutional research meetings and journal clubs.
Programme Structure
Research projects include:
- Control of Citrobacter rodentium by oxygen-dependent B cell regulation
- Regulation of local tissue oxygenation in cutaneous leishmaniasis
- Induction and regulation of Coxiella burnetii persistence by microenvironmental factors
- The regulatory role of fibroblastic reticular cells during intestinal bacterial infections
- Impact of microenvironmental factors on neutrophil effector functions directed against Salmonella (S.) enterica serovar Typhimurium
- Eosinophils shape the tissue micro milieu and immune resp

General requirements
- Candidates for the doctoral positions in natural science (Dr. rer. nat.) or human biology (Dr. rer. biol. hum.) must hold a M.Sc. degree in immunology, microbiology, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, applied mathematics, theoretical physics or in bioinformatics.
- Enthusiasm for experimental in vitro and in vivo research, self-reliance, ability to work in a team, excellent skills of the English language and an intrinsic motivation for the specific training program are expected.

- One-page summary each of the bachelor and master thesis
