About the prorgamme

The structured training program of the Immunomicrotope RTG at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) conveys the necessary theoretical knowledge, technical capabilities and general research skills to the doctoral candidates in order to allow for an efficient analysis of the “immunomicrotope” and a successful thesis work.

Among other components, it consists of introductory lectures on infectious disease immunology, practical courses and workshops, guest seminars, a doctoral candidates´ jour fixe, an annual retreat, international laboratory exchanges, and participation in the institutional research meetings and journal clubs.

Research projects include:

Control of Citrobacter rodentium by oxygen-dependent B cell regulation
Regulation of local tissue oxygenation in cutaneous leishmaniasis
Induction and regulation of Coxiella burnetii persistence by microenvironmental factors
The regulatory role of fibroblastic reticular cells during intestinal bacterial infections
Impact of microenvironmental factors on neutrophil effector functions directed against Salmonella (S.) enterica serovar Typhimurium
Eosinophils shape the tissue micro milieu and immune resp

General requirements

Candidates for the doctoral positions in natural science (Dr. rer. nat.) or human biology (Dr. rer. biol. hum.) must hold a M.Sc. degree in immunology, microbiology, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, applied mathematics, theoretical physics or in bioinformatics.
Enthusiasm for experimental in vitro and in vivo research, self-reliance, ability to work in a team, excellent skills of the English language and an intrinsic motivation for the specific training program are expected.
