History is an academic discipline about human beings and society through centuries. The core of historical study of continuity and change at the local, national and international levels is empirical analysis and source critical awareness.
Historical knowledge and insight into the methodological specificity of historical scholarship are central to our understanding of contemporaneity.
Features
Students at the Karlstad University are offered opportunities to broaden their chronological and thematic understanding and to discuss with various groups nationally and internationally in seminars, courses and conferences.
We cooperate with the history departments at the universities of Linköping and Gothenburg on arranging seminars and offering doctoral courses. Depending on the chosen thesis topic, doctoral students can also take theoretical and methodological specialisation courses offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
