About the programme
Research underpins all of the activities within the School of Art History. The research-based undergraduate student assistantships and postgraduate teaching offered at St Andrews encourages students to create new knowledge about the visual culture of the world around them.
The conferences and seminars organised at the University of St Andrews, and the public talks given elsewhere around the world, all draw upon the ground-breaking research done within the School.

General requirements
Admission to research study is normally on the basis of a good Masters degree which must be related to your area of research.
- CV or résumé. This should include your personal details with a history of your education and employment to date.
- A research proposal
- A sample of academic written work in English
- Two original signed academic references
- Academic transcripts and degree certificates. Please only send certified copies with official English translations if applicable. Do not send original documents as they cannot be returned.
