Chemistry studies the properties and transformations of matter. It is often termed the "Core Subject" of Science because all other natural sciences entail an understanding of the world at the atomic and molecular levels.

The objective of the Chemistry programme from Instituto Superior Técnico is to provide the 3 rd cycle students with solid and transdisciplinary modern training and prepare them for leadership roles in Chemistry by developing their ability to plan and carry out R&D projects in an independent manner.
