Overview
About the programme
Themes in and across disciplines include perception, consciousness and vision; philosophical and trans-disciplinary speculation; curation; creative Art practice and methods; creative design practice and methods; and visual material cultures.
The DProf in Art and Design at Cardiff Metropolitan University enables practitioners to reflect on how their own practice and that of their peers should change (adapt) so that their Art & Design solutions (new and existing) could be more effective. Projects in CSAD & PDR could focus on a wide variety of practice where there is a necessity to investigate a challenge or problem in current practice.
The focus for a change in practice or organisational change, or both is flexible and broadly covers one of three types, to include: proposing, implementing, and evaluating change within the professional context; evaluating change that is already happening within the professional context; or gaining a better understanding of the professional context to propose change.
Programme Structure
Examples of projects are wide reaching, but could include:
- Creating artwork for people with a particular health issue to interact with and evaluating any perceived improvements or changes in their health;
- Refining the design, materials or mechanisms of a product to improve the usability, or improve the efficiency or reduce its production or sales cost;
- Trialling alternative materials to in the combustion within a kiln to fire ceramics, in order to reduce the emissions and seek a more sustainable fuel source, and reflecting on the change to the finished object.
