About the programme
The School of Literature, Language and Media (SLLM) at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg contributes to the vibrant literary and intellectual life of Johannesburg.
It offers students the opportunity to explore the implications of social and cultural diversity through the study of language, literature, writing, media studies and policy and regulation in the electronic communications and Internet sectors.
It is home to top international scholars, including one of the few A-rated academics in literary studies, and prides itself on its high standard of teaching.

- The PhD is awarded on the basis of a thesis only.
- This thesis must constitute a substantial contribution to the advancement of new knowledge in the subject chosen as such, the degree demands the capacity to pursue independent research and analysis at the highest level.
