Overview
Students can expect to work closely with a faculty advisor in their chosen research area to create a curriculum plan and guidance for the doctoral dissertation. Students be also be expected to teach introductory-level courses to undergraduates, present conference papers and work with faculty on research grant applications.

- The Ph.D. Biomedical Engineering program is primarily based on George Washington University's main campus in Washington, D.C. (Foggy Bottom), which lies in close proximity to the School of Medicine, the Milken Institute School of Public Health, and the GW Hospital.
Programme Structure
Curriculum:
- The PhD program in biomedical engineering is strongly interdisciplinary and designed to prepare students to apply engineering principles to problems in medicine and biology, to understand and model multiple attributes of living systems, and to use this knowledge to develop novel biomedical systems and devices.
- Students can choose from among a wide array of areas of study, mentored by both core departmental faculty and external faculty from the School of Engineering and Applied Science and other schools of the University.
- These faculty members qualify on the basis of their expertise and teaching abilities for joint or secondary appointments in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
- Core faculty expertise includes cancer therapy, cardiac electrophysiology, biosensors, microfluidics, ultrasound applications in medicine, and medical imaging and image analysis.

- For bachelor's-only applicants, a minimum of a 3.4 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) must have been achieved.
