The Social Ecology programme offered at Charles University is interdisciplinary and it is based mainly on sociology, economics, environmental sciences, as well as international relations, political science, pedagogy, statistics, computer science, and other disciplines and sub-disciplines of social and natural sciences.

- The aim of the Study Programme is to prepare highly qualified and employable experts for the complex interdisciplinary issue of relationships between a human as an individual or the society and natural or human-influenced environment and natural systems. The prerequisite being a broad range of knowledge of relevant theoretical approaches in social and environmental sciences, knowledge of approaches and methods of sociological, economic, pedagogical and environmental research as well as knowledge of current political discourse both in the Czech Republic and internationally.

General requirements
- The components of the entrance examination are:
- Discussion of the submitted dissertation project proposal, which should be prepared together with an authorised supervisor from the list of supervisors approved by the Board of Studies, whose name is included in the project (max. 12 points)
- Verification of the necessary background in the natural sciences in relation to the environment and in the social sciences, including economics (max. 4 points)
- Verification of knowledge of the English language (max. 4 points).
- A candidate who receives less than 7 points from the evaluation of the debate on the dissertation project cannot be admitted. The Dean will determine the score threshold required for admission based on the result of the admission procedure and taking into account the economic and capacity possibilities of the faculty.
