The Electronics and Electrical Engineering (Dual) degree offered by Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati has been started to expand the scope of research focus offered in the PhD program covering all the major areas of faculty expertise that include Signal Processing, Communication Systems, Computer Networks, Control Systems, Biomedical Signal Processing, Image Processing & Computer Vision, Instrumentation, Multimedia Security, Power Electronics, Power Systems, RF and Microwaves, Speech and Handwriting Processing, VLSI Systems and MEMS.

The aim of this program is to enable bright engineering graduates from all the disciplines to study and carryout research in different and interdisciplinary areas of electronics and electrical engineering. On successful completion of the program, both MS(Engg.) and PhD degrees are awarded.

General requirements

For admission to the PhD Programme a candidate must have

4-Year/5-Year Bachelor's Degree or a Master's Degree, with CPI 6.0 on 10-point scale (or 60% of marks), in the relevant discipline.
Note that
The CPI/Marks criteria will be relaxed by 0.5 CPI (or 5% marks) for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
The concerned academic division will determine the suitability of discipline based on the advertised research areas.
The PhD students admitted with UG degree have an option to choose Dual Master’s + PhD degree in certain academic divisions. The students in the respective divisions, who are willing for the Master’s degree, have to opt for the same at the time of admission and latest by the end of first semester.
Such students have to do the prescribed coursework (of minimum 72 credits spanning over 3 semesters) of Dual Master’s + PhD programme of the concerned academic division. The CPI requirement in the coursework is 6.5
