I really liked the variety of courses in the program, which covered different areas such as management, economics, finance, and data analysis. The assignments and projects were also useful because they helped me apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations and develop analytical and teamwork skills. Another positive aspect was studying in an international environment and working with students from different backgrounds. One area that could be improved is increasing the number of practical activities, such as case studies, industry projects, or collaboration with companies. This would give students more real-world experience and better preparation for the job market. Overall, my study experience was positive and valuable. The program gave me a strong academic foundation and helped me develop skills that will support my future studies and career.

Irem Bayram

During my undergraduate studies in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Istinye University, I gained extensive hands-on research experience alongside my academic education. Since December 2024, I have been working as an undergraduate research assistant at the Kutlu Research Group, where I actively contribute to projects focusing on chemotherapy resistance mechanisms in cholangiocarcinoma. Within this research environment, I have developed strong laboratory skills, including 2D and 3D cell culture, development of drug-resistant cell lines, and performing cell viability and cytotoxicity assays such as MTT, SRB, and ATP assays. I also gained experience in molecular techniques like RNA and miRNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, and qRT-PCR. Additionally, I performed advanced analyses such as flow cytometry (Annexin V-FITC/PI, TUNEL assay) and contributed to sample preparation for metabolomics studies using LC-MS/MS. Beyond laboratory work, I was actively involved in data collection, analysis, and presentation, which strengthened my scientific thinking and problem-solving skills. I also took on a mentoring role by supervising junior undergraduate students, helping them adapt to laboratory techniques and research workflows. My academic journey was further enriched by participation in scientific communities. I presented a poster at the Xth MOKAD Congress and attended the KUTTAM “The Autophagy” Symposium at Koç University. Additionally, I have been an active member of the Cell-Ebrity Scientist Club, where I served as a treasurer and sponsorship coordinator, gaining organizational and leadership experience. Overall, my university experience has been highly research-oriented and has provided me with both technical expertise and collaborative skills. This experience has strengthened my motivation to pursue graduate studies in molecular cancer research and continue contributing to the scientific community.
