Fudan University was established in 1905 as Fudan Public School. It was the first institution of higher education to be founded by a Chinese person. In 1917, the institution was renamed Fudan University, which has been kept ever since.  

History

On September 14th the same year, or August 16th based on lunar calendar, Fudan Public School, the first higher education institution run by Chinese people, opened at the government office of Wusong area, Shanghai.

Education

The liberal arts education is a well-rounded education centered on the human being. By promoting liberal arts education, Fudan hopes to transmit to students the spirit of the sciences and humanities, fostering full development of character in students, understanding different cultures and ways of thinking, developing habits of independent thinking and investigation, and providing them with a better grasp of nature and society. Over several years of development, the school will create a liberal arts education program with a core curriculum at its center, supported by the residential college and mentorship systems, promoting an improved quality of talent development.

Research

With years of development, Fudan has become a comprehensive research university with ten disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, medical science and management. Fudan takes pride in its balanced strengths in arts, science and medical science. In recently years, the University promotes interdisciplinary development and emerging science development to facilitate discipline development into world-class level.

Housing services

CCSP students are offered accommodation in apartments at Tohee International Student Village, which is located adjacent to the Fudan University campus. The Village is home to a large number of international students from all over the world. A standard Tohee apartment has 2 or 3 bedrooms with 1 or 2 bathrooms, a living/dining room, kitchen, balconv. Wifl. television. washina machine and fridae.

Library services

Fudan University Library was formally established in 1922, previously known as the Reading Room of Wu Wu (the year 1918). Today it comprises the Liberal Arts Library, the Science Library and the Medical Library, with its total floor space being 29,000 M2.

Medical services

It is mandatory for all international students in China to purchase the so-called Foreign Students Overall Insurance. You can purchase this insurance at the Fudan University International Student Office during the registration procedures at the university, our staff will help you do so. The insurance premium of 400 CNY per semester is already included in the CCSP programme fees. 

Campus life

Fudan Foreign Student Dormitory is constituted by the Main building and the Supplementary building. Introduction to both buildings is as follows:

Main building :The main building located northwest of Fudan campus is a 23 storey building with totally 728 rooms, 582 single rooms and 146 double rooms respectively. There are 4 elevators in the main building (in the mid of north and south lobbies).The double rooms are from 1st floor to 14th floor.

Tohee International Student Village is student accommodation designed to provide a secure and comfortable living environment for oversea students in shanghai.

Student clubs

Fudan University is host to a large number of student associations and clubs, ranging from arts to politics to athletics and outdoors activities.
