Health Assessment &ME of ConstructedInfrastructure
As reflecting on my academic journey from Diploma in Electrical Engineering to bachelor's in civil engineering and finally to a Master's in Structural Engineering, I can say that each phase uniquely shaped my technical mindset, critical thinking ability, and professional identity. What I truly appreciated about my study experience was the deep technical exposure, especially during the master's level, where I had the opportunity to engage in advanced structural analysis, design, and research. The structured curriculum, practical lab sessions, and case studies in all three levels helped bridge theory with real-world applications. In particular, I liked how the diploma course laid a strong foundation in applied sciences and hands-on skills, which proved beneficial during site visits and practical civil engineering tasks during my bachelor's. The civil engineering course broadened my interdisciplinary knowledge and taught me project-based learning. The master's degree, however, provided me with in-depth analytical tools and fostered critical problem-solving relevant to complex structural systems. However, there are areas that can be improved. A major gap I noticed was the limited industry linkage and internship opportunities at the diploma and bachelor's levels. While theory was emphasized, the integration of current technologies, software tools, and field-based learning could have been stronger. The curriculum could also benefit from more interdisciplinary collaboration, entrepreneurship training, and soft skills development, which are essential in today’s job market. Furthermore, better mentorship and research culture at the undergraduate level would have helped students develop a more innovative mindset early on. In summary, my overall academic experience has been rewarding and transformative. It has given me a solid technical background, project execution skills, and a mindset geared toward lifelong learning. Moving forward, I aim to continue contributing to the engineering field with the same dedication and continuous self-improvement instilled throughout my academic journey
