History
NYU Tandon School of Engineering dates to 1854, when the NYU School of Civil Engineering and Architecture as well as the Brooklyn Collegiate and Polytechnic Institute (widely known as Brooklyn Poly) were founded.
Education
At the School of Engineering, academics are focused on cultivating students’ research, thinking and problem-solving skills so that they can be members of such teams. Our rigorous coursework is built on the fundamentals; hands-on projects promote active learning. Freedom to experiment with new solutions and unconventional approaches allows students to enter their profession or go on to an advanced degree program with confidence and unmatched experience.

Assessment tools and interest inventories are also available to students who need additional guidance in identifying appropriate career options.

Student services
The Office of Student Affairs supports the School of Engineering's academic mission by enhancing students’ education through a range of programs that build intrapersonal, professional, emotional, and other essential life skills. We work in partnership with academic, support, and service departments to tailor our activities to students’ needs. Our programs address emerging issues and foster community building.
Housing services
The Office of Residential Life and Housing Services is responsible for the overall administration and operation of NYU’s 22 residence halls and two graduate living communities, home to approximately 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students during the academic year and summer session. Our office works in coordination with many departments and student groups to provide and maintain comfortable, safe and secure living environments for New York University residents.
Medical services
We are committed to addressing the physical and mental health needs and ensuring the safety of all members of our campus community. Our goal is to provide a comfortable and confidential environment for students, faculty, and staff to maintain their well-being through the variety of services we offer.

Many of NYU's campus buildings are located right in the heart of Manhattan's vibrant Greenwich Village neighborhood.
