I believe Hestim University is an excellent choice for students seeking a high-quality education in technology and engineering disciplines in Morocco.
Great research experience
A great research center with top researchers. I loved the focus on research and policy evaluation, as a matter of fact everyone had to develop a research thesis. My master thesis tutor was supportive and helped me a lot designing the quantitative model I used for my policy evaluation. I regret having spent there only one year since I was in a Double Degree program.
Nice school, but lacks practical aspects
I have only completed one semester, so my opinion is subject to change. Overall, I used to be a very academic student while completing my bachelor's degree, but since graduating, I have been working for four years and travelling Australia and the surrounding region. This time helped me to gain real-world experience while also making a steady income to support this lifestyle. I found I enjoyed making a direct impact on businesses while also learning more about the world around me. While abroad, I didn't get to fully work within my area of interest (International Affairs) because I lacked the experience or degrees. This is what prompted me to go back and complete my Master's. I was hoping my Master's would be different from my undergrad and maybe feature more real-world assignments (direct policy memos, etc). However, first semester was filled with a lot of the same theory, essay writing, and readings that I did in my undergrad. It felt like I was going backwards. I want to learn the hard skills that will help me succeed in the work world. That being said, I understand that Hertie may have this approach because (1) it is an international school and needs to be broad in the first semester to level the playing field and (2) some students are here to complete research roles and further studies, which include essay writing and readings, are inline with this. However, Hertie being a private school, I was hoping for a more unique and progressive approach to education. Overall, the school is smaller and has many resources available,e which I appreciate. I just wish I were learning more practical skills.
