Westminster International University in Tashkent

In January 2002, Westminster International University in Tashkent opened its doors to the first 120 students on the Level 3 Certificate of International Foundation Studies (CIFS) course and the BA (Hons) in Business Administration degree. In 2004, the first 16 students graduated. Since the university’s establishment, the student population has grown to over 6,300. 

The goal in establishing WIUT was to enable citizens of Uzbekistan and other countries to obtain an internationally recognised Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Business Information Systems, and Economics, Finance and Commercial Law, all validated by the University of Westminster. Since 2005, WIUT has offered internationally accredited Master's degree programmes in International Business Management, Applied Economics, Finance (MBA), Human Resource Management and Talent Development, Business Intelligence and Analytics, International Commercial Law, Research Methods for Social Sciences, Learning and Teaching, Public Health Science, Creative Industries Management and Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning.

Since its founding in 2002, WIUT scholars and students have been actively engaged in research in Uzbekistan, Central Asia and globally. Recent policy reforms have increased demand for evidence-based decision-making across the public and private sectors. In response, WIUT established the Centre for Policy Research and Outreach in 2018 to support government bodies and international partners. The Centre serves as a platform for dialogue between experts, policymakers and implementing agencies, producing applied research tailored to specific policy needs. In 2019, WIUT also launched a Scientific Council enabling PhD and DSc candidates to defend dissertations in Management and Econometrics & Statistics. Known for its independent voice, WIUT is widely trusted for high-quality analysis and recommendations.

Graduates of Westminster International University in Tashkent pursue diverse careers across public, private and civil society sectors. Many secure roles in banking, finance, accounting and consulting, or enter corporate graduate programmes in marketing, HR, operations and strategy. Increasing numbers work in technology, data analytics and FinTech, while others join public policy, diplomacy, government agencies, international organisations and NGOs. Some continue to PhD study or obtain professional qualifications (ACCA, CFA).
