Description

Ph.D. Candidates funded by the EUI contracting states receive a monthly scholarship/stipend and do not pay the programme's tuition fees.

Benefits

The authority provides a monthly grant for the first three years of EUI Ph.D. Programme. The fourth year is covered by the EUI (2025 EUI monthly grant amount is 1,620 EUR per month, in addition to other allowances).

Eligibility

In addition to the general EUI terms and conditions of eligibility, the following general grant terms and conditions of the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Research are applying:

Eligible are persons who:

  • possess Austrian citizenship, or
  • have a special affinity to Austrian society due to other factors. At least two such factors of special affinity must be present, for example:
  • main residence or residence title of the applicant in Austria for at least three years during the last five years preceding the applications deadline;
  • (not just marginal) employment of the applicant in Austria for at least thirty months during the last five years preceding the applications deadline;
  • self-employed, tax-assessed economic activity of the applicant in Austria for at least thirty months during the last five years preceding the applications deadline;
  • parents liable to pay taxes in Austria for at least five years;
  • completion of a course of study at an accredited university in Austria amounting to at least 150 ECTS points;
  • having passed the Matura in Austria.

    An application to the doctoral programmes at the EUI automatically results in an application to the grant from the Ministry.

    Applicants who have already been awarded with a grant from the Ministry to pursue doctoral studies, are not eligible.

    Successful candidates will receive a grant confirmation by the OeAD GmbH, provided that they have fulfilled the general grant terms and conditions of the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Research.
