Description

Ph.D. Candidates funded by the EUI contracting states receive a monthly scholarship/stipend and do not pay the programme's tuition fees.

Benefits

Monthly grant: €1,470

Travel allowance: €360 per trip, maximum two trips per year

Family allowance: monthly child support for under-age children.

Insurance: no

The funding authority provides a monthly grant for the first three years of EUI Ph.D. Programme. The fourth year is covered by the EUI (2025 EUI fourth-year grant is 1.620 € per month, in addition to other allowances).

Eligibility

  • The scholarship can be awarded to the citizens of Estonia, citizens of the European Union member states staying in Estonia with permanent residence and persons staying in Estonia with long-term residence permit, who have been accepted to the doctoral studies of the Institute within the framework of the quota allocated to Estonia.
  • The applicant has to prove their Estonian language knowledge, at least on the B1 level.

No separate funding application is required when applying for admission to the EUI doctoral programme. The funding authority requires candidates to submit a mandatory statement together with their EUI online application. A separate application call is later opened by the Estonian Education and Youth Board for those accepted to the EUI.

Estonian Education and Youth Board will communicate its exact deadline to the candidates who are selected for admission to the EUI PhD programme on the funding authority`s webpage.

The Estonian Funding Authority, Education and Youth Board, requires candidates to complete and sign this statement and motivation letter [download template]. A scanned PDF copy of the duly completed and signed statement must be attached to the EUI Online Application Form. Please use the CV field to upload the PDF document as a separate file in addition to your CV.
