Description
Ph.D. Candidates funded by the EUI contracting states receive a monthly scholarship/stipend and do not pay the programme's tuition fees.
Benefits
The Authority provides a monthly grant for the first three years of EUI Ph.D. Programme. The fourth year is covered by the EUI (2025 EUI fourth-year grant is €1,620 per month, in addition to other allowances).

Eligibility
- Appropriately qualified university graduates can apply.
- It is also possible to apply if you do not have German citizenship.
- EU citizens who have lived in Germany for at least 5 years and have thus acquired a "permanent right of residence",
- Non-EU citizens who already have a settlement permit (a right of residence for an unlimited period of time),
- Persons with refugee status or other humanitarian residence permits and permanent residence in Germany,
- Persons who have already worked in Germany for 5 years before starting their studies or whose parents have lived and worked in Germany for a longer period of time.

No separate funding application is required.
The application for admission to the EUI doctoral programme is automatically an application for a national grant.
After the selection at the EUI, the selected candidates need to apply formally for the grant by using the DAAD portal. It is not necessary to submit a separate application. This is not valid for applications for an LL.M. grant. To apply for an LL.M. grant it is necessary to submit an application directly to the DAAD.
