Description
Ph.D. Candidates funded by the EUI contracting states receive a monthly scholarship/stipend and do not pay the programme's tuition fees.

The Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg pays a monthly grant of €1,800 during the first three years of the PhD at the EUI. The fourth year is covered by the EUI (the amount of the scholarship for 2025 is €1,620/month, excluding other allowances). During this fourth year, the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg pays an additional grant of €180/month.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for a grant from the Government of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg to pursue a PhD programme at the European University Institute in Florence, you must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application:
- be a national of Luxembourg
- hold a classical or a general respectively a classical or a technical secondary school leaving diploma from Luxembourg
- hold a recognised higher education diploma as defined by article 2 of the law of 21st July 2023 on the organisation of higher education [Brevet de technicien supérieur – BTS delivered by a Luxembourgish secondary school, bachelor or master degree delivered by a specialised higher education institution accredited in Luxembourg or by the University of Luxembourg, PhD or specialised medical diploma, delivered by the University of Luxembourg]

The application for admission to the EUI doctoral programme is automatically an application for a national grant.
If you meet the eligibility requirements for a grant from the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, you must attach the required documentation (ID card or passport, copy of Luxembourg secondary school leaving certificate or copy of higher education diploma obtained in Luxembourg) to your EUI Application.
