History
University of Bridgeport was founded in 1927 as a two-year junior college, the first one in New England. Initially, students enrolled in general education classes, and twenty years after its opening, the school became University of Bridgeport. In the years following, the university’s entrepreneurial spirit contributed to the development of strong academic programmes in high demand fields.
Education
UB prepares students for careers of the future with in-demand programs and majors in the fields of computer science, engineering, artificial intelligence, criminal justice, business, health science, mathematics, music, psychology, and sport management. The School of Engineering offers an accelerated BS to MS programme designed to allow undergraduate students with a strong academic record to pursue a graduate degree in an expedited format.
Research
University of Bridgeport fosters research development by offering programs that engage its faculty, their mentees, as well as external researcher collaborators and their stakeholders. UB has research centers and laboratories on campus for students to conduct research and collaborate on projects.
Career
University of Bridgeport offers a comprehensive career counseling and resource center which supports students from career exploration to preparation for entry into the work world. Student services
Students are supported by a variety of offices at UB, including an International Center for Students and Scholars, Office of Student Academic Success (advising and tutoring), Health Services office, and Counseling Services office. Students can attend workshops and seminars on-campus and participate in cultural enrichment programmes. UB also offers community service and volunteer opportunities for its students.
Housing services
University of Bridgeport offers undergraduate and graduate on-campus housing. Residence halls are vibrant communities where students are engaged as active members of the campus, educated on topics related to their success, and empowered with the critical thinking skills that will help in their transformation into a responsible and active member of a global community. Housing options include traditional rooms, suites, or apartments. All residence halls are staffed with professionals who offer a variety of programmes for residents, and they also serve as mentors and resources for students. There is one main dining hall and several other eateries on campus.
Library services
Wahlstrom Library is in the center of campus and offers study rooms, computer stations, a “quiet study floor,” and a café.
ICT services
Students will find computer stations in Wahlstrom Library and in computer labs around campus. UB’s Help Desk is available to students and provides technical assistance to resolve a variety of issues. The Innovation Center at Bauer Hall is a creative space on campus for UB students and includes meeting spaces, a podcast studio, tech transfer office, in-house mentors, and more.
Medical services
Health Services’ emphasis is geared towards wellness. The office offers health education, preventive health screenings, health promotion programs, and individualized care. UB’s Student Health Services also offers student health care for the treatment of acute illnesses and injuries. International students are required to purchase the university’s health insurance plan.
Campus life
University of Bridgeport is set on a 56-acre campus on Long Island Sound and features 14 schools, colleges, and institutes, 7 residence halls, and multiple dining options. The campus is designed to promote academic excellence and includes both academic and recreational facilities like the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium, Wheeler Recreation Center, and the John J. Cox Student Center. Adjacent to the campus is Seaside Park, a 400-acre park which stretches along Long Island Sound. The park offers outstanding outlets for fun on the beach, relaxation, exercise, and outdoor study. University of Bridgeport is located 90 minutes from New York City where students can enjoy all the city has to offer.
Sports facilities
University of Bridgeport’s athletic facilities are host to 16 NCAA Division II sports. Hubbell Gymnasium is home to the UB men's and women's basketball teams and the women's volleyball team. In addition, the building houses the main athletic offices, the main athletic training room, equipment room, seven locker rooms, Arnold Hall of Fame Room, and the Abner Sports Performance Center. Knights Field is home to both the Men's and Women's Soccer programmes and the Men's and Women's Lacrosse squads. Wheeler Recreation Center houses three multipurpose courts, a fitness center, fitness studios, and an aquatics center. The John J. Cox Student Center is home to UB’s state-of-the-art Bowling Center.
Student clubs
The Center for Student Involvement aims to create a vibrant and active campus community through student engagement by creating opportunities for students to become engaged in clubs and organizations, leadership development, and campus traditions. The Center provides mentorship and development for all student clubs and organizations, often collaborating with students to make sure all voices and interests are represented. Events and activities are designed to motivate and challenge students while introducing them to opportunities to expand their education — both inside and outside the classroom. More than 60 clubs are available ranging from cultural and arts/music to community service, academic and social clubs.
Accreditation
University of Bridgeport is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The baccalaureate (BS) degree programmes in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The Ernest C. Trefz School of Business undergraduate and graduate programmes are professionally accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programmes (ACBSP).

My Awesome Exprience
I applied to university of bridgeport in 2024 and my exprience has be nothing short of awesome University of bridgeport gave me a chance to showcase myself I'm a shy person and will rather listen than talk but with the relate small size class room I have been able to come out of my shell to speak learn unlearn and relearn I live the fact that we are given a real life opportunity to study work with in management science and the exprience has been exhilarating As an individual I priotize safety first and bridgeport did not disappoint me The cultural diversity is also a thing to look out for as an international student I felt safe and know this is the place i want to be The academic staff are wonderful ready to help I did not see any hostility to me or any other person. I'm supper grateful for that What can be improved scholarship amount for graduate student can be looked into it will really help alot

I really like the way this University accept foreigners with different cultures and traditional behavior my overall study experience was challenging due to the atmospheric nature of my university location but regardless of such it was good because it gave me new knowledge and skills to explore in the country am coming from
